Wat is VSME Module B3?

VSME Module B3 gaat over het in kaart brengen van de broeikasgasemissies van je onderneming. Op basis van je verbruik van energie en brandstoffen bereken je de uitstoot van CO2 en andere broeikasgassen. Je rapporteert hier zowel je directe uitstoot (Scope 1) als indirecte uitstoot via ingekochte energie (Scope 2). Ook geef je aan hoe intensief je uitstoot is ten opzichte van je omzet.

Voor wie is VSME B3 verplicht?

Elke onderneming die onder de VSME-standaard rapporteert, moet module B3 invullen. Dit geldt ongeacht de omvang of sector. Ook als je organisatie alleen een kantoorruimte huurt of een beperkt aantal medewerkers heeft, moet je rapporteren welke uitstoot je hebt – ook al is dat beperkt.

Welke gegevens moet je invullen bij VSME B3?

Voor deze module verzamel je informatie over energieverbruik en brandstoffen. De benodigde gegevens vallen meestal onder de volgende categorieën:

  • Verbruikte elektriciteit (kWh of MWh)

  • Verbruik van aardgas of andere brandstoffen

  • Zakelijk vervoer (aantal kilometers, type voertuig en brandstof)

  • Goederenvervoer of mobiel materieel (indien van toepassing)

  • Verbruik van chemicaliën of koelmiddelen (indien van toepassing)

Op basis van deze gegevens bereken je:

  • Scope 1-uitstoot: directe emissies door eigen verbranding of gebruik van brandstoffen

  • Scope 2-uitstoot: indirecte emissies door ingekochte elektriciteit, warmte of stoom

  • Totale energieverbruik, uitgesplitst in hernieuwbaar en niet-hernieuwbaar

  • CO2-intensiteit: emissies per euro omzet

🔧 Let op: Gebruik officiële emissiefactoren (zoals uit het GHG-protocol) om de uitstoot in ton CO2-equivalenten (tCO₂e) te berekenen.

Waarom is module B3 belangrijk?

🔢 Wat is het verschil tussen Scope 1 en Scope 2?

  • Scope 1: directe uitstoot door eigen bronnen, zoals gasverbruik of brandstofverbruik van bedrijfswagens.

  • Scope 2: indirecte uitstoot door de opwekking van ingekochte energie (zoals elektriciteit).

💡 Moet ik exacte verbruiksdata hebben?

Bij voorkeur wel. Heb je alleen schattingen? Dan kun je die gebruiken, zolang je duidelijk vermeldt waarop de schatting gebaseerd is (facturen, jaargemiddelden, tankpasdata etc.).

📊 Hoe bereken ik de CO2-intensiteit?

De CO₂-intensiteit wordt berekend als:
Totale CO₂-uitstoot (Scope 1 + 2) ÷ omzet in euro’s

Deze verhouding laat zien hoe efficiënt je werkt ten opzichte van je inkomsten.

🔧 Waar vind ik de juiste emissiefactoren?

Gebruik bijvoorbeeld de officiële emissiefactoren van het GHG-protocol, of de nationale lijst emissiefactoren (zoals in Nederland: co2emissiefactoren.nl).

Voorbeeld uit de praktijk (VSME B3)

Een productiebedrijf met 20 medewerkers verbruikt jaarlijks 40.000 kWh elektriciteit, 25.000 m³ gas en rijdt 60.000 zakelijke kilometers met dieselvoertuigen. Door deze gegevens te combineren met de juiste emissiefactoren, berekent het bedrijf:

  • Totale CO2-uitstoot per scope

  • Energieverbruik (in MWh), uitgesplitst naar hernieuwbaar en niet-hernieuwbaar

  • CO2-intensiteit ten opzichte van de omzet

Tijdsbesteding & benodigde documenten voor VSME B3

Gemiddelde tijdsbesteding: Sterk afhankelijk van de omvang van je verbruik en hoeveel data je al beschikbaar hebt. Over het algemeen is dit de meest tijdsintensieve module.

Frequently asked questions about the VSME

  • No. The VSME standard was created voluntarily by EFRAG (the same body behind the CSRD) for SMEs. Its purpose is to help SMEs report on sustainability in a structured way without having to prepare a full CSRD report.
    Note that more and more customers, supply chain partners and financiers do ask for it.

  • The CSRD is mandatory for large companies (from ±500 FTEs, listed and other cases) and requires extensive ESG reporting.


    The VSME standard is an accessible, simplified guideline for smaller companies. It is less complex, but is consistent with the structure of CSRD.

  • Yes. A VSME report shows in a clear and recognized way what your company is doing on sustainability. Increasingly, governments, corporates and municipalities are asking for ESG information in tenders - a VSME report is then a strong answer.

    • Basic: you indicate whether you have a policy, what you are already doing, and report your scope 1 and 2 emissions, your waste, and some basic characteristics about your staff, among other things.

    • Comprehensive: you go deeper into your strategy, risks, governance and performance. This level is especially relevant if you want to embed sustainability more strategically or it is demanded in the supply chain.
