Wat is VSME Module B4?

Module B4 gaat over het rapporteren van vervuilende stoffen die je onderneming uitstoot of loost in lucht, water of bodem. Deze module is alleen verplicht als je hier al wettelijk of vrijwillig over rapporteert. Je hoeft geen nieuwe metingen te doen, maar geeft een overzicht van gegevens die je al hebt verzameld of gerapporteerd, bijvoorbeeld aan een milieudienst of via een milieumanagementsysteem (EMS).

Voor wie is VSME B4 verplicht?

Alleen organisaties die nu al rapporteren over vervuilende stoffen – bijvoorbeeld vanwege een vergunning of EMS-certificering – moeten B4 invullen. Heb je geen verplichting of rapportage op dit vlak? Dan kun je dat aangeven. In dat geval ben je klaar met deze module.

Welke gegevens moet je invullen bij VSME B4?

De standaard vraagt het volgende:

  1. Rapporteert je onderneming over vervuilende stoffen?

    • Ja, verplicht

    • Ja, vrijwillig

    • Nee

    2. Indien ja, geef per stof aan:

    • De naam van de stof (bijv. stikstofoxiden, fijnstof, zware metalen)

    • De uitgestoten of geloosde hoeveelheid (in kilogram per jaar)

    • Het medium waarin het terechtkomt:

      • Lucht

      • Water

      • Bodem

Je mag eventueel ook verwijzen naar een externe bron (zoals een overheidsdatabase, jaarverslag of EMS-rapport).

Voorbeelden van relevante stoffen: NOₓ, SOₓ, fijnstof (PM10/PM2.5), kwik, lood, oplosmiddelen, etc.

Waarom is module B4 belangrijk?

🧾 Moet ik deze module altijd invullen?

Nee. Alleen als je onderneming al rapporteert over vervuilende stoffen, moet je B4 invullen. Zo niet, dan geef je aan: “Niet gerapporteerd”.

📄 Wat als ik mijn gegevens al ergens openbaar heb gemaakt?

Dan kun je in plaats van handmatige invoer verwijzen naar een externe bron – zoals een URL of een openbaar rapport.

🧪 Wat zijn voorbeelden van vervuilende stoffen?

Typische stoffen zijn:

  • Voor lucht: stikstofoxiden (NOₓ), zwaveloxiden (SOₓ), fijnstof, CO

  • Voor water: zware metalen, fosfaat, nitraat

  • Voor bodem: minerale oliën, chemische reststoffen

Gebruik waar mogelijk classificaties zoals in je EMS-rapport of een vergunningaanvraag.

💡 Wat als ik alleen onderaannemers gebruik?

Als je niet zelf emissies hebt, maar werkt met derden die dat mogelijk wel doen, hoef je hier niets in te vullen. Module B4 gaat alleen over jouw eigen directe uitstoot of lozingen.

Voorbeeld uit de praktijk (VSME B4)

Situatie:
Een middelgrote drukkerij werkt met oplosmiddelhoudende inkten en heeft een vergunning voor het lozen van vluchtige organische stoffen (VOS) via een afzuiginstallatie. De onderneming is ISO 14001-gecertificeerd en rapporteert jaarlijks aan de omgevingsdienst.

Toepassing in B4:

  • Rapporteert u hierover? → Ja, verplicht

  • Stof 1: Isopropanol (lucht), 120 kg/jaar

  • Stof 2: Ethylacetaat (lucht), 45 kg/jaar

De drukkerij verwijst ook naar haar emissierapport op het portaal van de regionale milieudienst. Omdat deze data al publiek zijn, hoeven ze niet handmatig herhaald te worden.

Frequently asked questions about the VSME

  • No. The VSME standard was created voluntarily by EFRAG (the same body behind the CSRD) for SMEs. Its purpose is to help SMEs report on sustainability in a structured way without having to prepare a full CSRD report.
    Note that more and more customers, supply chain partners and financiers do ask for it.

  • The CSRD is mandatory for large companies (from ±500 FTEs, listed and other cases) and requires extensive ESG reporting.


    The VSME standard is an accessible, simplified guideline for smaller companies. It is less complex, but is consistent with the structure of CSRD.

  • Yes. A VSME report shows in a clear and recognized way what your company is doing on sustainability. Increasingly, governments, corporates and municipalities are asking for ESG information in tenders - a VSME report is then a strong answer.

    • Basic: you indicate whether you have a policy, what you are already doing, and report your scope 1 and 2 emissions, your waste, and some basic characteristics about your staff, among other things.

    • Comprehensive: you go deeper into your strategy, risks, governance and performance. This level is especially relevant if you want to embed sustainability more strategically or it is demanded in the supply chain.
