Wat is VSME Module B6?

In module B6 van de VSME-standaard geef je inzicht in het watergebruik van je onderneming. Je rapporteert over hoeveel water je onttrekt, hoeveel je loost, wat je netto verbruikt en of je bedrijf gevestigd is in gebieden met hoge waterstress.

Deze module helpt om de impact van je bedrijfsactiviteiten op lokale waterbronnen zichtbaar te maken.

Voor wie is VSME B6 verplicht?

Module B6 is verplicht voor alle ondernemingen die:

  • Zelf water onttrekken via een leiding, bron of put

  • Actief zijn in sectoren met hoog watergebruik (landbouw, industrie, productie)

  • Vestigingen hebben in gebieden met hoge waterstress

Heb je een kantoor zonder bijzondere processen? Dan kun je dit aangeven in de toelichting, of gebruikmaken van een schatting.

Welke gegevens moet je invullen bij VSME B6?

  1. Wateronttrekking

    • Hoeveel water is er onttrokken (in m³)?

    • Wat is de herkomst (leidingwater, eigen bron, regenwater)?

    • Indien mogelijk: per locatie

    💡 Je kunt een schatting maken op basis van je waterfactuur of gemiddeld verbruik per medewerker.

    2. Locaties met waterstress

    • Heb je locaties in regio’s met hoge waterstress?

    • Vul dan per locatie in:

      • Naam en adres

      • Onttrokken hoeveelheid water (in m³)

      • Waterstressscore > 40% → hoog

    3. Nettoverbruik en lozing

    • Hoeveel water is geloosd?

    • Wat is je nettoverbruik (onttrekking – lozing)?

    • Is er sprake van waterhergebruik of infiltratie?

Waarom is module B6 belangrijk?

Water is een van de meest kritische hulpbronnen in de context van duurzaamheid. Het rapporteren van je watergebruik helpt bij:

💧 Wat is het verschil tussen wateronttrekking en verbruik?

  • Onttrekking = al het water dat je bedrijf binnenhaalt

  • Verbruik = onttrekking – lozing
    Voor een kantoor is verbruik vaak gelijk aan onttrekking. Voor productiebedrijven kan water verdampen, in producten blijven of infiltreren.

🧾 Wat als ik geen precieze cijfers heb?

Gebruik een realistische schatting op basis van:

  • Facturen

  • Aantal medewerkers × gemiddeld verbruik

  • Interne registraties

🌍 Hoe weet ik of ik in een gebied met waterstress zit?

Check je locatie via aqueduct.wri.org. Waterstress boven 40% = hoog.

🌦️ Moet ik ook regenwater of hergebruik melden?

Ja. Als je actief regenwater opvangt of water hergebruikt in je processen, kun je dat vermelden bij herkomst en toelichting.

Voorbeeld uit de praktijk (VSME B6)

Een cateringbedrijf met een eigen keukenlocatie in Spanje ontvangt jaarlijks een waterfactuur van 320 m³. Er wordt geen water geloosd naar het riool (alles verdampt of blijft in het product).

Het bedrijf controleert via Aqueduct dat het zich in een regio met 45% waterstress bevindt.

In het VSME-rapport vult het bedrijf in:

  • 320 m³ onttrekking

  • 0 m³ lozing

  • 320 m³ verbruik

  • Waterstress = hoog

  • Bron = leidingwater

Met deze gegevens voldoet het bedrijf aan alle vereisten van module B6.

Frequently asked questions about the VSME

  • No. The VSME standard was created voluntarily by EFRAG (the same body behind the CSRD) for SMEs. Its purpose is to help SMEs report on sustainability in a structured way without having to prepare a full CSRD report.
    Note that more and more customers, supply chain partners and financiers do ask for it.

  • The CSRD is mandatory for large companies (from ±500 FTEs, listed and other cases) and requires extensive ESG reporting.


    The VSME standard is an accessible, simplified guideline for smaller companies. It is less complex, but is consistent with the structure of CSRD.

  • Yes. A VSME report shows in a clear and recognized way what your company is doing on sustainability. Increasingly, governments, corporates and municipalities are asking for ESG information in tenders - a VSME report is then a strong answer.

    • Basic: you indicate whether you have a policy, what you are already doing, and report your scope 1 and 2 emissions, your waste, and some basic characteristics about your staff, among other things.

    • Comprehensive: you go deeper into your strategy, risks, governance and performance. This level is especially relevant if you want to embed sustainability more strategically or it is demanded in the supply chain.

  • No problem. The VSME standard is meant precisely as a starting point. You can indicate where you do not yet have a policy or goals, and still deliver a report. This way you show transparency and demonstrate that you are on the move.

  • This is not certain. The expectation is that the VSME standard (or some variation of it) will become the norm for SMEs in the next few years, especially if they work with larger organizations covered by the CSRD, as well as in government procurement and bank lending.
