Wat is VSME Module B7?

Module B7 vraagt je om transparant te zijn over drie onderwerpen:

  1. In hoeverre je bedrijf circulaire principes toepast

  2. Hoeveel afval je produceert, en hoeveel daarvan wordt gerecycled

  3. Of je grote hoeveelheden grondstoffen of materialen verbruikt

Deze module is vooral van toepassing voor productiebedrijven, bouw, retail of bedrijven die veel verpakkingen gebruiken.

Voor wie is VSME B7 verplicht?

Alle ondernemingen moeten iets invullen, maar de diepgang hangt af van je bedrijfsactiviteit. VSME B7 is met name verplicht als je:

  • Grote hoeveelheden afval produceert

  • Werkt met fysieke materialen (zoals grondstoffen, halffabricaten of verpakkingen)

  • Circulaire strategieën toepast of hierover wil rapporteren

Bij dienstverlening of kantoorbedrijven volstaat een toelichting als er weinig of geen afval/materiaalverbruik is.

Welke gegevens moet je invullen bij VSME B7?

1. Circulaire economie

  • Pas je circulaire principes toe? Denk aan hergebruik, afvalpreventie, modulaire producten.

  • Geef een korte toelichting op de toepassing in je bedrijfsvoering.

💡 Voorbeelden zijn hergebruik van verpakkingen, retourstromen, of ontwerpkeuzes die afval minimaliseren.

2. Afvalbeheer

  • Geef per afvalsoort aan hoeveel kg je jaarlijks produceert.

  • Splits op in gevaarlijk en niet-gevaarlijk afval.

  • Noteer het percentage dat wordt gerecycled of hergebruikt.

📌 Gebruik bij twijfel ruwe schattingen. Voor classificatie van gevaarlijk afval kun je optioneel de European Waste Catalogue raadplegen.

3. Materiaalverbruik

  • Alleen verplicht bij grote materiaalstromen (bijv. tonnen hout, staal, karton, kunststof).

  • Vul in hoeveel ton je inkocht en/of intern produceerde.

🗑️ Wat als ik alleen huishoudelijk afval heb?

Dat kun je kort vermelden. Verdere specificatie is dan niet nodig.

⚖️ Moet ik exacte kilo’s weten?

Nee. Een grove inschatting volstaat. Je kunt bijvoorbeeld het aantal containers of afvalbakken per maand vermenigvuldigen.

☢️ Moet ik gevaarlijk afval melden als ik geen fabriek heb?

Ja, als je afval produceert dat als ‘gevaarlijk’ geldt (bijv. batterijen, verf, oliën). Dit kan ook bij kantoorgebruik het geval zijn.

Voorbeeld uit de praktijk (VSME B7)

Een webshop in woonaccessoires werkt met veel kartonnen verpakkingen. Ze hergebruiken verpakkingsmateriaal van leveranciers en beperken afval via bestelinstructies.

In VSME B7 vullen ze in:

  • Niet-gevaarlijk afval: 1.200 kg (voornamelijk karton en restafval)

  • Gerecycled: 75%

  • Gevaarlijk afval: 0 kg

  • Circulaire principes: hergebruik verpakkingsmateriaal en leveranciersinstructies

  • Materiaalgebruik: niet van toepassing

Hiermee rapporteren ze volledig en correct zonder overrapportage.

Frequently asked questions about the VSME

  • No. The VSME standard was created voluntarily by EFRAG (the same body behind the CSRD) for SMEs. Its purpose is to help SMEs report on sustainability in a structured way without having to prepare a full CSRD report.
    Note that more and more customers, supply chain partners and financiers do ask for it.

  • The CSRD is mandatory for large companies (from ±500 FTEs, listed and other cases) and requires extensive ESG reporting.


    The VSME standard is an accessible, simplified guideline for smaller companies. It is less complex, but is consistent with the structure of CSRD.

  • Yes. A VSME report shows in a clear and recognized way what your company is doing on sustainability. Increasingly, governments, corporates and municipalities are asking for ESG information in tenders - a VSME report is then a strong answer.

    • Basic: you indicate whether you have a policy, what you are already doing, and report your scope 1 and 2 emissions, your waste, and some basic characteristics about your staff, among other things.

    • Comprehensive: you go deeper into your strategy, risks, governance and performance. This level is especially relevant if you want to embed sustainability more strategically or it is demanded in the supply chain.

    Greenreporting supports both levels - depending on the package you choose.

  • No problem. The VSME standard is meant precisely as a starting point. You can indicate where you do not yet have a policy or goals, and still deliver a report. This way you show transparency and demonstrate that you are on the move.

  • This is not certain. The expectation is that the VSME standard (or some variation of it) will become the norm for SMEs in the next few years, especially if they work with larger organizations covered by the CSRD, as well as in government procurement and bank lending. By starting now, you will be prepared and avoid catching up later.
